Outline of the JCMT Project in FY 2015
In its training program for new Fellows, the JCMT received a total of 6 Fellows as trainees, including 1 from Indonesia and 2 from Vietnam in the Spring Session, and 1 each from Thailand, Indonesia and Mongolia in the Autumn Session.
As training in medical equipment and technology, the JCMT provided
training in advanced diagnostic technology by using various types
of endoscopes, ultrasonic diagnostic systems, magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) equipment, computer tomography equipment, etc. in
Toranomon Hospital. Training in current Japanese clinical medical
technologies was also given through observation of the actual
medical setting and related discussions, covering surgical
technologies using surgical microscopes, the thoracoscope,
laparoscope and endoscope, intraoperative ultrasonic diagnostic
equipment, intraoperative monitors, etc., catheterization,
surgical techniques and multidisciplinary team postoperative
management, etc.
To deepen the Fellows’ understanding of modern-day Japan and the
Japanese people, the Fellows were allowed to experience general
everyday life in Japan during the training period, and were also
give opportunities to come into touch with the history and culture
of Japan. As part of those activities, the JCMT conducted a study
tour to Nara and Kyoto during the regular training in both the
Spring and Autumn Sessions.
As Refresher Courses for previous Fellows, the JCMT received a
total of 9 doctors from Vietnam, Mongolia and Indonesia, including
special invitations. This number was larger than in most years.
Follow-up Training was also given to trainees in their own countries by the following 3 visits.
① In the later part of November 2015, Dr. Kuniaki Ohara of the
Toranomon Hospital Department of Dermatology gave surgical
guidance, guidance in case diagnosis and lectures on surgery of
skin tumors to Indonesian dermatologists, including JCMT alumni
and others, at the Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and Dharmais
Hospital, University of Indonesia.
②In early December 2015, Dr. Nobukazu Hayashi, Head of the
Department of Dermatology, Toranomon Hospital, gave guidance in
case diagnosis and a lecture on dermatological pharmaceutical
affairs to Indonesian dermatologists, including JCMT alumni and
others, at the Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, University of
Indonesia.
③ In mid-December 2015, Dr. Yuji Matsummaru, Head of the
Department of Neuroendovascular Therapy, Toranomon Hospital, gave
a lecture at a symposium of the Indonesia Neuro Endovascular Club
(INEC), and also gave a lecture on neuroendovascular therapy,
together with surgical guidance and advice on treatment policy, to
Indonesian neurosurgeons, including JCMT Alumni and others, at
Pertamina Central Hospital in Jakarta and Dr. Sardjito Hospital of
Gadjah Mada University in Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
In mid-July, the JCMT held a reception for the Fellows receiving training at the time, doctors of Toranomon Hospital and representatives of the Sponsor Companies which support the JCMT Project. Each of the Fellows reported on the current status and challenges of medicine in their own country, and the Fellows also expressed their thanks with a song. More than 40 persons participated, and smiling faces could be seen from the beginning to the end of the event.
